In many areas of work, other local businesses are the competition, the 'enemy'. It's slightly different with Professional Surveyors. Yes, we are in competition, but it's still better for us, and so better for our clients, if there is collaboration in the collective knowledge and local issues.
Smart Surveyor and Mark Pearce host the 'Perigee' coffee mornings. We get together about four times a year, and we meet at one of the cafes or coffee houses supporting our community.
I'm not sure if any of the cafes would recreate this coffee art with chocolate dustings on our cappuccinos, but it'd be pretty impressive if they could... maybe we'll ask next time.

Between us, the local Chartered Surveyors have a very broad range of skills and professional practice areas. We call it having different 'flavours' of surveying, so we can discuss what the various trends are, and then if we get client enquiries that are not quite our own individual 'flavour,' we know where to point people to.
For example, mostly the others in the network will direct enquiries about Boundary Advice and Boundary Disputes to Smart Surveyor, as well as matters around Party Wall Surveying. Specialist knowledge of Building Defects comes our way too.
If you are a local Chartered Surveyor or aspiring Surveyor and haven't heard of us yet, get in touch, and we can let you know about the next meet-up. Relevant discussions can count towards your RICS Informal CPD requirements.
